Acne scars can sometimes be even more of a pain than acne itself. The scars and hyper-pigmentation left behind by acne can last for months. If you are an acne sufferer, it is extremely important to note that picking at your acne or ‘popping’ your pimples can actually worsen the scars and hyper-pigmentation.
If you are looking for a natural and safe way to treat the scars that acne can leave behind, the solution is probably as close as your kitchen. Baking soda is a great exfoliator. It is also a natural skin-lightening agent. Using baking soda once or twice a week, can greatly reduce your acne scars and hyper-pigmentation, reducing the redness and shortening the time that it takes for the scars to fade completely. Exfoliating is a key component of getting rid of acne scars. Using baking soda as an exfoliator helps get rid of dead skin cells and promotes new skin cell growth. Baking soda also works to lighten the bright red scars left behind by acne. Here are a few ways you can utilize baking soda to treat your acne scars:
Baking Soda Scrub – simply mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of filtered water. Gently massage the skin for 30 seconds and then rinse with warm water.
Baking Soda Toner – mix together 1 cup of filtered water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Apply the toner after cleansing the face and allow it to soak in for 3 minutes, then rinse.
Baking Soda Mask – simply mix baking soda and filtered water until it reaches a thick paste-like consistency and apply to the face. Do not leave on for more than 10 minutes.
