Many people think of bees as a summertime nuisance. But these small, hard working insects are actually responsible for many of the foods we eat. Now a condition known as Collapsed Colony Disorder, caused by global warming, parasites and the biggest threat of all, pesticides and GMO seeds. Many of the pesticides used in the United States, have been banned in much of the rest of the world when they realized it was causing bee populations to drastically plummet.
What can we do to help? There are many ways to become involved including writing elected officials, contacting The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and make your voice heard.
Another more immediate way to keep the honey bees happy and healthy, is to plant things they love! Make sure you buy non-GMO seeds and of course we don’t recommend commercial pesticides.
