If I see a spider scurrying around my home, I can’t relax until it’s back outside where it belongs. Until then, knowing that something with 8 eyes may still be looking at me from some unknown hiding place! YIKES! That’s when it hit me; the best way not to worry is to keep them from wanting to come inside, in the first place.
Now I use Peppermint oil! It smells wonderful. It’s not toxic to humans, pets OR spiders! The way it works is spiders simply DO NOT like Peppermint oil. The strong smell will send them scurrying away from your home just as quickly as you have been running in the opposite direction of them!
Here’s what you do…
Fill a small spray bottle (found in Beauty supply, craft, or hardware stores) with 1 cup of tap water, and add 2 Tsp of Peppermint Essential Oil. Give it a whiff to make sure the water smells minty, if not add a few more drops. It is important to use this larger amount of oil per water. Then you simply spray directly on spiders, as well as around windows, doors, edges of the room, etc. For an even more potent remedy add one or two drops of peppermint oil onto a cotton ball and place in the areas where spiders may be able to enter or hide. The most popular place in our house is under the sink, along the sides and under the dishwasher and the corners inside our kitchen cabinets.
It’s as simple as that!
Other useful hints to get rid of spiders:
- Place Catchmaster Traps in corners of the rooms and under furniture. I’ve caught several spiders this way.
- Have lighter-colored walls and floors
- Reduce clutter – spiders love things under beds and corners of the rooms. You will for sure find spiders in a cluttered home.
- Clean and dust on a regular basis
