Kidney stones form when high levels of chemicals such as uric acid, phosphorous, calcium and oxalic acid are found in urine. Other common causes of kidney stones are excessive consumption of Vitamin D, a mineral imbalance, dehydration, gout and improper diet. In respective of the size of the kidney stones, they can cause severe pain. Other symptoms of kidney stones are a desire to urinate frequently, painful urination, nausea, vomiting and excessive sweating.

 1. Filtered Pure Water

When you are suffering from kidney stones, you need to drink plenty of filtered water. When you consume eight to ten glasses of pure water along with other kinds of fluids, the color of your urine will become clear like water, which is a good sign. It is recommended to drink mineral water, as it is free of sediments. Mineral water will help in reducing the concentrations of calcium and uric acid from the urine, thus making it less alkaline in nature. Equally, mineral water will not allow the kidney stone to increase in size.

2. Lemon Juice

The citric acid present in lemon helps to break down the calcium-based kidney stones and at the same time stops the further growth of more stones. Two to three times a day drink a glass of water with the juice of 1/2 organic lemon. When you drink lemon water, the volume of urination will also increase which is good for those having kidney stones. Also, you can mix one tablespoon of lemon juice with one tablespoon of organic olive oil and drink it straight followed by half glass of mineral water. After half an hour add the juice of half lemon in half glass of mineral water and one tablespoon of organic raw apple cider vinegar and drink it.

3. Nettle Leaf

The nettle leaf helps in maintaining the flow of water through the kidneys and bladder, thus promoting smooth urination. At the same time nettle leaf helps in keeping the crystals from forming into stones and keeps the bacteria away. Those suffering from kidney stones must drink two to three cups of nettle tea daily. To make this herbal tea, take two tablespoons of dried nettle leaf and add it to a cup of hot water. Steep for ten minutes and then strain it before drinking the tea. Nettle tea will also enhance the benefits of water by acting as natural diuretics.

4. Kidney Beans

Kidney beans are very effective in the treatment of any kind of kidney and bladder problems, including kidney stones. Simply remove the beans from inside the pods, then slice the pods and put them in hot water. Now allow the water to boil on low flame for hours until the pods become soft and tender. Finally strain the liquid and then allow it to cool. Again, strain the liquid and drink it several times throughout the day for relief from kidney stone pain. This decoction should not be kept for more than 24 hours as it will lose its therapeutic properties.

5. Basil

Basil is regarded as a tonic for the k is good for the overall health of kidneys. Those suffering from kidney stones must take one teaspoon of basil juice, mix it with equal amount of honey, and have it daily in the morning for five to six months. If you do not like the taste of honey, then you can take pure basil juice or chew two to three basil leaves daily in order to induce stone expulsion from the urinary tract. Another option is to drink basil tea. Take five to six basil leaves and steep them in boiling water for about ten minutes. Add a teaspoon of honey and drink when it cools.

6. Celery

Due to its antiseptic properties a glass of raw celery juice can help relieve the pain associated with kidney stones. Celery juice helps by clearing the toxins that causes the formation of kidney stones. At the same time, raw celery juice is a diuretic, which means it can help the stone to break down. Drink a glass of celery juice daily in order to prevent the formation of more stones. Along with the vegetable, you can also use celery seed with your treatment by making an herbal tea to treat stones which are formed because of uric acid accumulation.

7. Pomegranate

Both the seeds and juice of pomegranate can help in the treatment of kidney stones due to their astringent properties. Try to eat one whole pomegranate daily or drink one glass of freshly squeezed pomegranate juice. The ‘seeds’ add a whole new dimension to salads as well. Another option is to take one tablespoon of pomegranate seeds and then grind it to make a fine paste. Now take this paste along with a cup of warm broth. This remedy is helpful in dissolving the gravel in kidneys.

8. Watermelon

Watermelon is one of the best ways to treat kidney stones that are composed of calcium and magnesium phosphates and carbonates. Potassium, present in watermelon, is an essential ingredient for healthy kidneys, as it helps in regulating and maintaining the level of acid present in your urine. Along with potassium, watermelon also contains a high concentration of water that helps in flushing out stones from the kidneys.
